The WRO data platform is a searchable repository of water-related datasets contributed by the Water Research Commission and its partners. Datasets span a wide range of topics, from hydrology and water quality to biodiversity, climate, and land use, and are available for discovery, download, and use by researchers, practitioners, and the public.

Registration is free and provides access to the full functionality of the platform, including dataset downloads and the ability to contribute your own data.
Search Other Databases
The WRO data platform is one of several repositories relevant to water research in South Africa. The following external databases may also contain datasets relevant to your research:
SAEON Data Catalogue A searchable catalogue of long-term environmental monitoring datasets from the South African Environmental Observation Network, covering terrestrial, freshwater, estuarine, and marine environments.
SANBI Metadata Search A metadata catalogue for spatial biodiversity datasets held by the South African National Biodiversity Institute, including ecosystem maps, species distribution data, and protected area information.
Google Dataset Search A global dataset search engine that indexes datasets from across the web, useful for discovering water-related datasets from international and South African sources not held in dedicated repositories.
AQUASTAT Database Query (FAO) The Food and Agriculture Organisation's global water information system, providing country-level statistics on water resources, water use, and irrigation infrastructure including data for South Africa.
